There were two faithful women, Mrs. Alice B. Kerr and Mrs. Elisa V. Sanford of the Trent River Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Association, who had a vision of spiritual awakening. These great women turned to God for inspiration. Being divinely led, they met the association and requested a Woman’s Missionary Department known as the Daughters of Zion. In October 1932, after meeting with the association’s executive board and agreeing to pay a fee of 10% to the association after any of their sessions, their request was approved and granted.
In July 1933, these and other dedicated women, Mrs. Lillie Rayner, Mrs. Mary O. Wilder, Mrs. Francis Hulon, Mrs. Disora Chadwick, and Mrs. Frances Brimage, met together at Saint Philip’s Missionary Baptist Church in Pollocksville, NC. The following officers were then elected as the first officers of this convention. Reverend S. L. Stanford, Counselor, Mrs. Alice B. Kerr, President, Mrs. Elisa V. Stanford, Vice President, Mrs. Hattie Scott, Secretary, and Mrs. Nellie Sharpless, as Treasurer. Under the outstanding leadership of President, Mrs. Annie L. Chadwick, this subsidiary has furnished a room in Shaw University, Raleigh, NC, with our inscription on the door.
Under the leadership of Reverend W. K. Raynor, Counselor, President-elect Mrs. Martha K. Burge, The Daughters of Zion, name was changed to the Woman’s Home and Foreign Mission. Later, as time went on Trent River Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Association (TROGBMA) became a member of the General Baptist State Convention of NC.
Because there is only one Woman’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention, to align with the Woman’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina, an auxiliary to the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. We became the Woman’s Home and Foreign Mission Auxiliary to Trent River Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Association. Therefore, we are an aid to TROGMBA and operate financially separately from the association.
Our work is grounded in the church’s mission to serve, evangelize, and uplift. We believe that Christ died for our sins, and we are committed to spreading his message of salvation, love, and hope. Our goal is to bring Christ into every home, not just through word, but through active ministry, community outreach, and spiritual support. In partnership with our local churches in the broader Baptist community, we support mission work both locally and abroad, provide aid to those in need, and nurture Christian growth at every stage of life.
Our auxiliary is organized into three departments to ensure we reach women and youth across generations.
Senior Department – for women ages 40 and up.
Young Adult Department– for ages 21 through 40
Young Department– ages birth through 20
Each department is designed to foster spiritual development, leadership, and service, all while working in unity with the church’s broader mission. Our efforts complement the ministry of our church by helping women grow in their faith, serve their community, and become strong witnesses for Christ.
Over the years, many devoted women have led this great auxiliary with grace and vision such as Mrs. Annie L. Chadwick 1970-1984, Mrs. Janie D. James 1985 – 2011, Mrs. Lillie O. McDaniel 2011- 2016.

Jarman, Mrs. Pearl Fonville, Mrs. Mary Allison, Mrs. Sarah Burton, Mrs. Rosa Hines, Mrs. Sudie Way, Mrs. Eunice Major, Mrs. Georgia Williams, Mrs. Linda McAllister, Ms. Sabrina Moore, and Mrs. Dollie Harper. Serving as Treasurer: Mrs. Abby J. Ward, Mrs. Mary Boone, Mrs. Maggie Henderson.
